Built in 1907, this former speakeasy, Scandinavian and Basque restaurant was reopened in 1991 as a bar/nightclub and restaurant. One can sense the history in the bar. The red pool table, bordello red walls and carved mahogany bar give the place warmth and character.
Music writer David Plotnikoff (San Jose Mercury News) said this in an article- The subterranean den of tasteful iniquity is the crossroads of a new beat scene that's steadily siphoning business away from the South of Market nightclub strip... With it's gilt-edged ceiling, dark wood paneling and musty oil paintings, the 250-capacity cellar resembles a speakeasy or an old hunt club.
